A Simple Request
As we approach the last 24 hours of this critical election cycle, I'd like to ruminate on the charge that Harris and her supporters are radicals aiming to undo the Republic, while Trump's followers are conservatives dedicated to restoring American greatness.
Well, for actual conservatives who still exist in the Republican Party, who haven't paid attention to Trump's words but still intend to vote for him, I have a simple request; look up "conservative." Then consider which candidate in this race is the radical and who is more conservative. Which candidates, up and down the ballot, are for America? And who bow to the candidate who demands loyalty to himself over our Republic.
Conservatives believe that change should be approached with an appropriate level of caution. Before a change is made, a consevative considers the benefits and costs; what will be left behind, and whether we--as a collective--will be truly better off.
Conservatives believe in paying their way.
They also believe in the redemptive power of people trying to promote the general welfare, but always with the humility that comes with knowing that you could get it wrong.
Conservatives believe in politics and government because they know that through them the appetites of greed and power are restrained.
Conservatives do not believe in lighting the house on fire because they lost an argument over what will be served for dessert.
Conservatives don't abandon allies or shake them down for personal, political advantage. They don’t court support from the country's ideological opponents because they confuse brutality for strength.
Conservatives don't go from tantrum to tantrum. They don't demand supporters riot when they lose. They don't hint their opponents should face firing squads.
Words matter. When we debase words, we risk losing the concepts and behaviors they represent.
Please stop racist, revanchist, misogynist radicals from stealing that, which is best in America. They are not conservatives. Don't let them have the word.
Don't let them have your vote.
Don't let them have your country.
